That is a nice set up Andrew how do you get in and out , just keep the tie downs lose and lift it up? I mentioned I use a tarp set up, all the time but this week end is 2nd phase of hog season and I am making a truck tent out of pvc and a tarp I saw some comfy set ups.

It is light. I pick it up like and umbrella. and then set it over myself and by pack. It is large enought that in an open area I can set one end on my pack and the other on the ground and place my head by the pack and feet by the low end. It holds in a surprisingly large amount of heat. Last summer in the weatehr was in the 50s at night and mifd 80s during the day and I had to sleep in my underwear under a military poncho liner under it I was so hot.

Sportsmansguide.com makes a neat little camo bivy tent that is about what you are building there, sells for $29. They don’t show any in inventory at this moment, ya gotta watch for them and they go fast, but a small tent about the size of a coffin, with a rainfly that goes to the ground, and full no-see-um mesh if you take the rainfly off. Gander makes one too but it’s twice the price.

If you have trees in your area, this is a neat idea.

Those look like two useful options. They lack the versatility of a tent mad from a poncho though. I can use the poncho as a poncho, as a flotation device to float my ruck across water as all kinds of stuff. Plus I can use my aluminum lent poles as a fishing pole when combined with the interior cords from the 550 cord. The poncho tent provides versatility which mitigates the need to carry purpose specific items.

I did have one of these but I switched it out for a basha. The reason being it more compact and had urban camo. But the tent was still much more comfortable.

You made a poncho tent or you had one of the ones L4D shared?
