I found one on me today. Not sure when or how he got there. I have not been in the woods or outdoors since Saturday. I hope he was not hangign out since then.
If you find a tick attached to your skin, there’s no need to panic. There are several tick removal devices on the market, but a plain set of fine-tipped tweezers will remove a tick quite effectively.
How to remove a tick
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible.
Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don’t twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers. If you are unable to remove the mouth easily with clean tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal.
After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol, an iodine scrub, or soap and water.
Avoid folklore remedies such as “painting” the tick with nail polish or petroleum jelly, or using heat to make the tick detach from the skin. Your goal is to remove the tick as quickly as possible–not waiting for it to detach.
If you develop a rash or fever within several weeks of removing a tick, see your doctor. Be sure to tell the doctor about your recent tick bite, when the bite occurred, and where you most likely acquired the tick.
Ticks are capable of 11 or so different diseases Rock Mountain Spotted Feaver and Lime disease to name 2 on my shooting lane last summer I went to check my target twice brushing agains some tall weeds and when I got in side I felt some thing crawling on my belly it was a tick before he started eating lunch when I hit the showers there were 2 more I had more on me then dog did that illistration is correct never grab them by there belly it will squeze what ever they have in ya like a shot we used to take a cigerette and burn them but it also makes them contract if you walk through heavy brush chances are you will find them.
I hate ticks. I blame their bad behavior on adam and eve.
I got one on me last summer while in the woods. I think wearing a hat and light colored clothing helps keep them out your hair and identify them on your clothes. Ticks doesn’t seem to be as bad in the piney woods as I remember them being in central Texas we had lots of cedar trees.
As far as home remedies I never heard of putting nail polish on ticks but I do remember seeing somebody completely coat ring worm with a layer of nail polish. I have no idea if it actually works or not.
We use the Tick Key. Dogs pick them up regularly.
That looks interesting
Welcome to PA!
I’ve had a few ticks in the last year, no clue how I got them.
I got them either in NC or GA. I am in GA now and was in NC Thur-Sun.
Here is a video of the correct way to remove a tick.
^ Lol, I wouldn’t let a tick crawl around and attach itself to me just make a video.
Yea. That is nasty. I hate ticks.
Best thing is to treat your clothes with Permethrin. Then your skin with your choice of bug repellent such as Deep Woods OFF, etc.
Have alot of experience with these nasty guys, lol.
I will have to look at that. I am looking for methods that don’t scare off game and are sustainable from stuff in nature too.
Trick ive used was get a small airplane bottle of cheap gin ,vodka ( anything clear). & pop the cap & hold it over them ( mouth of bottle agains skin as to sumberge them) & they pop right off. I leave them in the bottle so no one makes the mistake of drinking it…
