I am sure I am not the only one that has noticed the trend towards some folks building Tiny Houses to either live in or at least to use as vacation homes. I think they are cool and, if I wasn’t so attached to all my stuff, would consider downsizing even more.

This thread is a place to share your Tiny House finds, discuss Tiny Houses and to share anything else related to them.

In case folks aren’t sure what Tiny Houses are I am going to post a few examples.

This one a guy built on an old 5th wheel that be tore down to the base and then rebuilt with material he bought and lowes and found from friends.

I couldn’t do the tiny house either I keep way too much junk matter of fact just for example my computer desk drawers is all full of junk. This junk I refer to consist of flash lights, lighters, knives, loose ammo to calibers I don’t think I’ve ever owned, screw drivers, razor knives, random sockets for socket wrenches, laser pointer, surgical tape, $2 bills and bunch of other crap similar in nature. If I had a place to put it and the wife would allow I’d probably have brake calibers, trailer tires and rear axles laying around lol.

I’d like to go a lot smaller, the wife doesn’t. She said I could move into her closet, lol.

300 sf would be fine with me. Bed, toilet, desk, 1 or 2 burner stove, and a fridge, is more than enough.

You can live int he small house and, after getting rid of the stuff you really don’t need, put all the crap you keep in your 4 car garage.

When I first joined the army Susie and I lived in a room in a 9 bedroom house. The room was so small our queen mattress would not even lay down on the floor. There was a storage area under the eves of the house that was attached to the room. The storage area had been insulated and sheetrocked. The mattress fit in there. We had the mattress in the storage area, a desk and chair in the other room and then our clothes where just stacked in piles along the wall. We owned so little stuff that we where able to transport it in our 2 cars.

I love looking at these small house and tiny houses, maybe after my three kids have left the nest my wife and I could consider it. It always (but shouldn’t) amazes me how much people on this site share common interest. For instance, all of the regular posters and regular readers that maybe don’t post up much, probably have like 15 to 20 other sites in common that we all look at -at least occasionally –tacticool crap on amazon, maybe other survival/prepper sites, some solar/wind power technology sites, maybe primitive tech sites, self defense/ martial arts, slickguns/gun-porn sites, hunting, major surplus or cheaper than dirt or sportsmans guide. I imagine it doesn’t really matter where we live at, we are all drawn to similar things, granted this is a niche sight that appeals to like minded people(many veterans or sheep dog mentality). Too bad the distance between people here is so great that it makes meet ups (except you texans- I meant Texans) pretty unrealistic.

That is cool. Please share more pictures and details when you get the opportunity. What are the dimensions for the structure? What do you envision the floor plan looking like? How do you plan on heating it?

It is 12′ x 32′ and I have a small wood burning fireplace that I just put in. I plan on documenting the whole build as I go. We are in the process of ordering the lumber and other materials and plan on starting the build out by the end of the month. This is a pic of the fireplace. I did install it to test it out, but will have to remove it to place the brick on the floor and walls around it. a9u7yban.jpg

12 x 32 is not bad sized. Do you plan on having interior plumbing?

We are planning on having a bedroom 8×12, bathroom 5×6, and a small kitchen. The loft will be the kids room and the rest of the space will be for the living room. We will build storage into the wall between the kitchen and the bathroom. I will build storage next to the bathroom also.
